Home projects

Well we have done lots of home projects, but our kitchen one is the first one I want to actually document and post- for 2 reasons.

1. I looked at some many darn blogs about DIY kitchens and I still think that each one had something new to offer. So if anyone ever does their kitchen- maybe mine will help. I didn't outline each step like some blogs do- but it give ideas of timelines, style, reviews of different steps or products, etc, etc. I am just not so into this that I care about taking the time to post every detail. Sorry.

2. I myself wanted to remember each step for both fond-memory-purposes and also to help us in the future if- God help us- we ever decide to take something like this on again in the future. (I'll let you know at the end of this whole thing if I will ever do this again).

So here is each kitchen post: (can you tell by my description of each post that the tv show Friends was our go-to after kitchen work?)

A bad addiction (The One where we decide to actually do this plus before pictures)

The dreaming stage (The One with idea and plans)

Stage 1: Goodbye old cabinets (The One where we begin demolition)

Stage 2: Cement Board and Flooring (the one where we we start construction not de-construction)

Stage 3: Tiling and Grouting (The One where I think We'll never get through this)

Stage 4: IKEA cabinet assembly and installation (The One where Kim and Aaron get very very very excited about progress)

That night I hardly slept. I tossed and turned and dozed and dreamt. Most of my dreams consisted of being late or forgetting something. I had the same kind of jitters I have before the very first day of school every year. Only this time- it was before my very first triathlon. I had prepared as much as possible. "You make my dreams come true"

Did you sing that line in your head when you read the blog title? That's what I was singing... Anyhow, I am so thankful for our community. I am really experiencing true community at DCF the way I have never experienced before. Some of these thoughts have come about because I am excited to be a prayer partner and a part of the food team for the new film that our pastor has written and is directing. Filming starts tomorrow! I was telling Aaron how neat it is that our church body has been so supportive in helping him raise money, volunteering their time, and giving him time away from speaking for the next few Sundays so he can focus on the film. I said, "Wow, filiming starts tomorrow. It's like a dream come true," (at least, I am assuming so...)  He said, "Yea, they [dcf] really rally around people dreams. Summer books!

So this isn't about gardening, but oh well. After writing that post about writing about garden I realized I was almost finished with my last book of summer and I would want to post about them. I am horrible at remembering what books are about and this helps when I write about them. Also, I like to keep track of my favorite books so I can recommend them when people ask. So.... here we go. I first read A Father to the Fatherless: The Charles Mully Story  by Paul Boge. This was given to us by Aaron's mom. She just went to Kenya on  mission trip for 2 weeks and visited the Mully Children Family. Charles Mully is a Kenyan man who went from complete destitution and abandonment by his family to riches. Then he met some street children who had been just like him and felt compelled to help them. He adopted several and that began the MCF. He gave up everything he had for these street children.
