Home projects

Well we have done lots of home projects, but our kitchen one is the first one I want to actually document and post- for 2 reasons.

1. I looked at some many darn blogs about DIY kitchens and I still think that each one had something new to offer. So if anyone ever does their kitchen- maybe mine will help. I didn't outline each step like some blogs do- but it give ideas of timelines, style, reviews of different steps or products, etc, etc. I am just not so into this that I care about taking the time to post every detail. Sorry.

2. I myself wanted to remember each step for both fond-memory-purposes and also to help us in the future if- God help us- we ever decide to take something like this on again in the future. (I'll let you know at the end of this whole thing if I will ever do this again).

So here is each kitchen post: (can you tell by my description of each post that the tv show Friends was our go-to after kitchen work?)

A bad addiction (The One where we decide to actually do this plus before pictures)

The dreaming stage (The One with idea and plans)

Stage 1: Goodbye old cabinets (The One where we begin demolition)

Stage 2: Cement Board and Flooring (the one where we we start construction not de-construction)

Stage 3: Tiling and Grouting (The One where I think We'll never get through this)

Stage 4: IKEA cabinet assembly and installation (The One where Kim and Aaron get very very very excited about progress)

That night I hardly slept. I tossed and turned and dozed and dreamt. Most of my dreams consisted of being late or forgetting something. I had the same kind of jitters I have before the very first day of school every year. Only this time- it was before my very first triathlon. I had prepared as much as possible. "You make my dreams come true"

Did you sing that line in your head when you read the blog title? That's what I was singing... Anyhow, I am so thankful for our community. I am really experiencing true community at DCF the way I have never experienced before. Some of these thoughts have come about because I am excited to be a prayer partner and a part of the food team for the new film that our pastor has written and is directing. Filming starts tomorrow! I was telling Aaron how neat it is that our church body has been so supportive in helping him raise money, volunteering their time, and giving him time away from speaking for the next few Sundays so he can focus on the film. I said, "Wow, filiming starts tomorrow. It's like a dream come true," (at least, I am assuming so...)  He said, "Yea, they [dcf] really rally around people dreams. BIG NEWS!!

Alright all, I have some BIG NEWS!!!! Here’s the backstory: Last October our class went to the Greenville Zoo and played at Cleveland Park right next to it afterward. We were inspired by the wheelchair accessible playground. Our kids could freely move about, play with the toys, and go down the slides. Our little special ed playground right outside our room is quite pitiful. It consists of one plastic climbling/slide thing which only 1 out of 7 students can actually get on, a few wooden benches, and a broken sand digger. Most of my students are in wheelchairs and have limited gross motor skills. Two of my students in wheelchairs can get out and climb around, but get dirty and put that dirt in their mouth too! So I went home that weekend and searched around until I found the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant which awards between $2,500 to 5,000 to schools nationwide. I had three days until the deadline.
