Tables and altars.

Well, merry christmas to me from my awesome husband. Our farmhouse table is finally finished. It was enjoyed for the first time last night at the infamous Pancakes and Ice Cream held during finals week at our house each semester. After months of looking at plans, Aaron mostly followed a plan by Ana White. We stained it with a stain called "Dark Walnut" and used a satin polyurethane. For the legs Aaron used 4" x 4" posts from an old fence thing found in our backyard. Then he bought the rest of the wood. If I was graded on this whole document-every-stage-of-your-pinterest-projects-so-you-can-put-it-on-your-blog I would be failing. Here's the finished product only! A million other people have pictures out there of every stage of their DIY farmhouse table.

I must put a little side note here about this table too. About our dreams for it. I sat the other day staring at it wondering who would be sitting at it years from now. Little children hopefully- maybe from my womb, maybe from Ukraine, maybe from next door. New friends. Old friends. Clemson friends. Out-of-town friends. Co-workers. Family members. Strangers. Best friends. Neighbors. People who need a safe haven. College students who need a home away from home and a cook home cooked meal. Maybe there will be epic card games played on the table. Maybe there will be quilts sewed or crafts made on the table.

Our biggest prayer is that lives would be changed around this table. That the most humble of places and the most common of places- a dinner table- would become the alter upon which we break bread and drink wine. The alter upon which we lay down busy schedules and distracted minds to love people. To live like Jesus lived. May we fill bellies with food and hearts with joy. May Jesus's love be tangible in our home and around this table.

May His love be tangible in your home and heart too! While I love the table, there's nothing special about the table itself- only about the things that happen around it. Those same things can happen around your desk at work, your cart at the grocery store, or the coffee table in your living room. The Prince of Peace that we celebrate this season lives in us and shines light everywhere we go- table or no table.

And he even cut the wood stumps to make my Christmas centerpiece :)
