Let us hold onto grace... and be held

Grace.

"Grace and peace be with you."

These words are the bookends of almost every chapter Paul writes in the Bible.  A salutation and a benediction. A greeting and a farewell. It is as if Paul can't seem to emphasize it enough: No matter was is held between these pages, make sure it is held in light of grace. Read it with the lens of grace. These are the bookends of life.

Grace in Genesis. Grace in Revelation.
Grace in the Garden of Eden. Grace in the New Jerusalem.
Grace in your waking. Grace in your sleeping.
Grace when the sun rises. Grace when dawn falls.
Grace in your laughing. Grace in your crying.
Grace in the valley. Grace on the mountain top.
Grace in the desert. Grace in the meadow.
Grace in the kneeling. Grace in the running.
Grace in living. Grace in dying.
Grace in your coming. Grace in your going.
Grace when you inhale. Grace when you exhale. 
Grace, grace, grace.

"Therefore, since we receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us hold onto grace." (Hebrews 12:28). Let us hold to grace. Hold onto the grace of Jesus. It is when we are holding onto grace that we find that nothing can overwhelm us like grace can overtake us. 

We don't have to grasp at fraying threads of hope or dangle helpless. We don't hold on in desperation- although it may sometimes feel like that. We hold on to the strong hands of Grace. We wrap our arms around the neck of Grace. 

And we suddenly feel Grace holding us.

Grace and peace be with you.

Grace.

That night I hardly slept. I tossed and turned and dozed and dreamt. Most of my dreams consisted of being late or forgetting something. I had the same kind of jitters I have before the very first day of school every year. Only this time- it was before my very first triathlon. I had prepared as much as possible. "You make my dreams come true"

Did you sing that line in your head when you read the blog title? That's what I was singing... Anyhow, I am so thankful for our community. I am really experiencing true community at DCF the way I have never experienced before. Some of these thoughts have come about because I am excited to be a prayer partner and a part of the food team for the new film that our pastor has written and is directing. Filming starts tomorrow! I was telling Aaron how neat it is that our church body has been so supportive in helping him raise money, volunteering their time, and giving him time away from speaking for the next few Sundays so he can focus on the film. I said, "Wow, filiming starts tomorrow. It's like a dream come true," (at least, I am assuming so...)  He said, "Yea, they [dcf] really rally around people dreams. On laughable things

laugh·a·ble ˈlafəb(ə)l/ adjective so ludicrous as to be amusing - - - - - Five years. I drove away from school with our school sign in my review mirror and just like that, this girl has five years of teaching under her belt. It's almost laughable when I remember my very first day of school five years ago driving home with that same school sign behind sobbing and deciding how I would tell my principal I was quitting. I simply couldn't do it. Simply didn't have it in me. That's especially laughable when I consider that two years ago, I was chosen for District Teacher of the Year. Five years. We drove away from the mountains this past weekend with the Lilley's cabin in our review mirror and just like that, this boy and girl have five years of marriage under their belt.
